inspiring enterprise across the Middle East
For the first time in the region, Intilaaqah Egypt’s five-day “Module 1” training has been rolled out to a group of 15 special needs (deaf and mute) participants in Alexandria. In August 2009, Intilaaqah Egypt has taken its first steps towards building the business capacity of unemployed disabled Egyptian youth to successfully become self-employed. The training module has been developed to fit the special needs of the participants. The presentation for instance has been modified to include more diagrams, photos, pictures and with less text to help the trainees to quickly grasp the idea.
The participants have sought this training opportunity as a means of raising their awareness on entrepreneurship and seeking advice/guidance on how to manage small businesses. Most of the 15 deaf and mute participants have existing talents and hobbies which they are looking at utilizing to establish profitable small businesses. On the other hand, other participants wish to proceed with acquiring the necessary skills and resources to turn their existing business ideas to a reality.
Shell Egypt looks forwards to conducting more Intilaaqah trainings to this special segment of the community in order to equip them with the necessary tools required to become self-employed.
Since this training session, Intilaaqah Egypt has been approached by other NGOs, to run similar trainings for more disabled Egyptian youth in the community.
