Welcome to Shell Intilaaqah / The Programme
inspiring enterprise across the Middle East
The first LiveWIRE programme was launched by Shell in Scotland in 1982 - and that first group of young people who benefited from the programme are now parents of a whole new generation who can look to LiveWIRE to help them make a choice about their future – a whole Generation of Enterprise support.
In the 1980s, the Shell LiveWIRE programme was aiming to provide an additional choice to young people who were making decisions about their economic future. At that time the programme provided a response to decreased choices and diminishing job prospects for young people. Now, at the beginning of 2009, the world is facing the most serious economic downturn in a lifetime, and choices for young people are becoming even more restricted. Shell LiveWIRE continues to offer entrepreneurship and business as a positive choice to be made by the young person – not as a final option - and with 26 years of programme experience, Shell LiveWIRE has seen that this approach can have a lasting and sustainable impact.
With LiveWIRE, Shell has developed one of the world’s longest running enterprise support programmes aimed at young people; and its global network of programmes provide an ever growing global reach. By supporting each new programme, Shell LiveWIRE can help realise the job creation potential of entrepreneurship through young people around the world.
Shell-Intilaaqah is an adoption of LiveWire, also aiming at encouraging youth to set up their own business, in the MENA region. Oman was the first country to launch Shell-Intilaaqah programme back in 1995. Several countries have soon followed, the UAE, Egypt, Libya, Qatar, Syria, while many more are in the pipeline. The vision of Shell-Intilaaqah programme is to be recognized as a leading regional entrepreneurial development programme.
